Luke 2:8-20 | “The Sounding Joy”
1.) Our problem is solved by God’s action (vv. 8–12).
2.) Our participation is enabled by sovereign election (vv. 13-14).
3.) God’s promises are not a thing of fiction (vv. 11-12, 15-17).
4.) Our pondering and praise of God is the church’s eternal occupation (vv. 17-20).
Why is the joy we have in Christ incomparable to joys experienced outside of Christ?
What is the significance of the ordinary situation (i.e., people, place, and circumstance) in which Jesus was born?
Is the gospel a message of fear, a message of joy, or both? Why?
As the elect of God, we have joy because of our faith in God. But why do we have faith? What are misconceptions about election we should steer clear of?
Has your celebration of Christmas ever felt like celebration of a myth? How is God’s Word a help in avoiding this mentality?
What does it mean to you that your “job” is to ponder and praise God? In what ways are we to do this, especially in the mundaneness of our everyday lives?
We didn’t see or hear the birth of Christ, so why do we still have the same joy about us?
God is not only to be pondered and praised but also proclaimed. Why should the former naturally lead to the latter?
