Six Reasons to Attend Cross19
Are you an 18-25 year old and a member of Liberty Baptist Church? If so, then you should consider attending Cross Conference (CROSS19) on January 2-5, 2019. CROSS started in 2013 when three thousand people gathered in a warehouse to think about how God might use His people to help take the gospel to the ends of the earth, specifically to the unreached peoples of the world. A second gathering took place in 2015 and another in 2016. In January of 2019, the fourth gathering will take place, and you could be there. Consider these six reasons you should attend CROSS19.
1.) The Focus of CROSS
The leaders of CROSS are passionate about one main thing: taking the gospel to the unreached and unengaged peoples of the world. This is communicated in a three-fold statement. You will be consistently reminded of this: 1) Hell is real; 2) Time is short; and 3) Jesus says, “Go.”Attending CROSS19 will inform and inspire you concerning ways this can become your life’s
focus as well.
2.) The Audience at CROSS
The leaders of CROSS understand there are various types of people in attendance. One false assumption is that CROSS is only for those who are called to long-term missionary service; this simply is not true. While you will be challenged to consider going to the unreached peoples of the world, you will also be challenged to consider how you should play a part in the Great Commission no matter where you are. It could be through going, but it could also be through equipping, praying, or giving. Not to mention, there is work to be done to reach the unreached both here and there. The leaders make this clear: “Some go, some stay, but God is the one who calls all his people to missions, and God is the one who uses them all.”
3.) The Leaders of CROSS
Consider just a few of the plenary speakers who will be at CROSS19 and the benefit it will be for you to sit under their teaching with thousands of others: John Piper, David Platt, Thabiti Anyabwile, Kevin DeYoung, Conrad Mbewe, and even J.D. Greear, the current president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Not to mention, Matt Boswell will be leading worship, and KB will
put on a concert one night. If you’re able, do not miss out on this opportunity.
4.) The Theology of CROSS
While CROSS is a conference about missions, it is not void of theology. In the statement concerning the beliefs of CROSS, the leaders communicate “how crucial [they] believe robust, biblical doctrines are for the long-term faithfulness, health, and fruitfulness of the church and her mission.” Each speaker will help you think through how theology impacts missions. They will help you see how the natural application of theological study is missiological practice. Not only will you learn more about God’s mission around the world, but you will see how biblical and theological truths inform that mission.
5.) The Opportunities at CROSS
Along with each of the plenary sessions, attendees will have the option to hear more focused content during a number of breakout sessions, many of which will be led by current or former missionaries. CROSS19 is also supported by many different organizations, all of which will be there for you to learn more about.
6.) The Fellowship at CROSS
While you will attend CROSS19 with thousands of others from all over the world, one of the sweetest things to be gained from this experience is the fellowship you will have with fellow brothers and sisters from LBC who are passionate about God’s mission. As much as we will enjoy attending the conference itself, there is much to be gained from sharing meals, riding the bus, having late night conversations, praying with and for one another, and inspiring one another to be a part of God’s mission in some way.
If you’re interested in going, please let us know! The trip will be led by four LBC members: C.J. Moore, Cassandra Moore, Seth Gilliam, and Emily Gilliam. We would love to have at least four others join us, and we can take as many as ten more. If you want to go or have any questions, please let us know by clicking on one of our names above.
